Do I need storm damage restoration company?

Property owners are often faced with the daunting task of hiring roofers, siding companies and glass companies to inspect and repair the damage. Our team of experienced property damage restoration specialists can mitigate water intrusion and security concerns as well provide you with a detailed estimate for ALL the repair work.

The roof, siding and windows are important elements of a home or building. They protect the structure from the natural elements such as wind, rain, fire, ice, snow, extreme heat and hail. Select a Qualified Storm Restoration Company

Inspecting a roof can be dangerous. It is important that you have proper safety gear and knowledge, too. Reputable storm damage restoration contractors will offer free property damage inspections and detailed estimates using industry-specific estimating software. Hail damage to roof shingles may not be obvious. It often takes a trained eye to spot hail damage to roof shingles. There are a variety of factors that will determine the severity of damage from wind, water and hail including the type of materials, age of materials, quality of construction, hail size, hail density, hail shape, velocity and angle of hail stones. Storm damage can either be ‘functional’ or ‘cosmetic’ in nature. A qualified, trained storm damage inspector will know the difference and will assist you with the insurance claim.

You will want to find a Denver home storm damage repair company who is highly regarded and has a solid reputation.

Reputation Matters

Locally Owned and Operated

“Storm chasers” migrate to areas where there is storm damage. After the business from that storm dries up, they pick up and move to the next storm damaged area. It is important that select a storm damage restoration company that is local and that will be able to backup their warranty after the storm damage repair job is done.

Word of Mouth

A great way to figure out how long the company has been in business is by checking them out on the Denver Better Business Bureau website. Ask for referrals. This can help you gauge the service that the company provides.

Answering Your Storm Damage Restoration Questions

Do I have hail damage if my roof isn't leaking?

Many homeowners and business owners view hailstorm damage through the lens of a “leak test.” If they experience a leak, that’s when they take the threat of damage seriously and call their insurance company to file a claim. Leaks don’t need to be evident, however, for there to be damage to your roof. This is especially true when the hail coming down has been of a considerable size. If you believe there’s been damage, survey the roof yourself or call on the help of a professional.

What steps should I take immediately after a storm?

Following a storm that resulted in hail damage, here are the steps you should take right away:

  • Write down the date and time of the hailstorm, and be sure to indicate when you believe the damage occurred.
  • Take photos of your property, including your home, yard, outdoor HVAC unit, and vehicles, focusing on any damage the storm caused.
  • Check for damage to your roof, such as missing or torn shingles.
  • Take pictures of a piece of hail next to a common object so that its size is evident.

Is storm damage covered by my insurance policy?

According to Allstate, most homeowners insurance does cover hail damage to homes, but there are some exceptions. In states with a lot of hail storms, like Colorado, it is possible that your insurance provider will have chosen not to cover wind and hail, in which case you will want to look into getting a policy specific to these types of damages. Additionally, some policies do not cover damage that is only cosmetic.

The key is to know what exactly your insurance company covers, and to discuss the policy with them if you have any questions. One important question to ask is whether your premium will rise as a result of having filed a claim. According to insurance.com, “since weather damage isn’t caused by your negligence, your insurer typically won’t hike your rate. However, your rate may increase if you’ve filed a claim within the three previous years, and the hail claim is your second.”

The insurance claim specialists at Abbotts can help you navigate these questions with your insurance company.
